Having a PP System Installed

The story starts in May 2011 when I asked DAC to examine my non-draining soakaway. Dave came along and confirmed my thoughts that a new soakaway was required. He quoted for 2 options – a deep trench and a direct pumped discharge, or a shallow soakaway together with a Consept PP treatment unit, which would again be pumped.

I accepted the latter quote (there was little difference in price and my preference was to treat the effluent).

Dave gave me a start date some 5 weeks later, and sure enough he turned up on time, on the day, along with a lorry carrying bags of gravel, followed by a lorry delivering a mini-digger. The skip to remove the spoil arrived on time the next day.

Without delay the digger was started and my lawn was transformed as follows:

The soakaway was rapidly filled in and that completed the morning’s work.

On morning three installing the PP treatment unit into the existing septic tank, connecting up the air pipe and starting the unit completed the installation.

The next day Dave then installed the electrics, and ran the cable from a convenient RCD in the garage to a separate RCD adjacent to the air pump, which was installed close to the septic tank and the new outlet point.

All worked smoothly, the septic tank is now at a level which allows correct sewer drainage, the tank contents are being treated, and discharged to the soakaway (which can also be an adjacent ditch or watercourse subject to consents).

The unexpected bonus at the end of the job – some grass seed to sow on the disturbed areas when weather conditions are right.
